Linear Strip Method vs. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

Linear Strip Method

FUE method is a minimally invasive procedure that removes hair follicles individually instead of in an entire strip of scalp. The donor follicles are removed from a more full section of hair using a 1 mm punch. This punch makes a tiny circular incision surrounding each individual hair follicle, and the follicles are removed using pneumatic pressure, or suction. Once the desired number of hair follicles are removed, these donor hair grafts are then implanted in much the same method as the Follicular Unit Extraction, using reverse pneumatic pressure. As hair follicles are implanted in the treatment section of scalp, the exact position of each hair follicle can be controlled.
During the linear strip method of hair restoration, a strip of donor follicles is removed from the back of the scalp.  After the individual follicles are prepared, usually in a single or two to three follicle rows, they are implanted into the section of scalp which is thinning or balding.  The linear strip method of hair restoration is a faster and less time consuming procedure than the manual FUE method. Instead of removing each and every individual follicle from the donor site, a strip of donor tissue is removed from the back of the head where hair is thickest in density.
